Dolby Digital+

Improved version of Dolby Digital that offers 7.1 channels, meaning 7 separate channels for regular speakers and 1 for low frequencies (subwoofer). It uses sound compression with less loss compared to Dolby Digital, but not at all like Dolby TrueHD.

Dolby Digital

Sound technology that offers 5.1 channels, meaning 5 separate channels for regular speakers and 1 for low frequencies (subwoofer). It has been replaced by technologies with less compression loss (Dolby Digital+) or no compression loss at all (Dolby TrueHD) and more channels.

DTS-HD Master Audio

An improved version of DTS-HD that offers 7.1 channels, meaning 7 separate channels for regular speakers and 1 for low frequencies (subwoofer). Unlike DTS-HD, DTS-HD Master Audio does not compress the sound.

DTS-HD

An improved version of DTS that offers 7.1 channels, meaning 7 separate channels for regular speakers and 1 for low frequencies (subwoofer). It uses less audio compression compared to DTS, but not none like DTS-HD Master Audio.

DTS

Sound technology that offers 5.1 channels, meaning 5 separate channels for regular speakers and 1 for low frequencies (subwoofer) like Dolby Digital but with less sound compression.
