In the POSITIVES (+):

+ They have a "clean" and "clear" sound (relative to their purchase cost).
+ They have sufficient volume to cover music listening (not for parties) in a typical-sized room.
+ They have a standard equalizer (Bass & Treble).
+ They have an automatic sleep mode, which turns off the speakers when they do not receive a signal for a certain period of time and turns them back on when a signal is present. This way, the use of the On/Off - Volume knob is not required.

In the NEGATIVES (-):

- The cable that connects the speakers together is integrated into one speaker. Therefore, if it gets damaged or cut, there is a problem and it requires repair as there is no possibility of replacement.
- They "color" the low frequencies (slight bass boost).
- They have a respectable volume, not suitable for "discreet" installation in a professional office.

In conclusion, for their price and for those who do not wish (regardless of reason) to purchase a 2.1 set, they are a very good and "quality" choice.
If there are no specific requirements for low frequencies combined with high volume, they are more than sufficient for gaming.

Years ago, Creative bought a small British company called Cambridge Acoustics (not Cambridge Audio, which still exists)... the entire T series from Creative is essentially models from C.A. that continue to be in production about 15 years later.
I have had T10, T20, T40, T40 mk2, T10 mk2 at various times... such quality of units, at such a price, I believe does not exist elsewhere; I have done teardowns from time to time and all the components inside are VERY respectable and all say Cambridge Acoustics...
The sound for their price is decent, for simple everyday use; I have them scattered across various PCs at home and the office just for music; you won't go to do critical listening with plastic multimedia speakers, nor will you throw a party.
In my setup, I listen to DSD, good flac exclusively, and maybe YouTube...
I wholeheartedly recommend them for simple use; they are reliable...
The only problem with the mk 2.0 in all series is that they changed the power brick (power supply) and at high volumes, the new one can't provide enough current, especially in the T40... if you can, find an older one or change the power supply brick.
Edit: The complaints I see in the reviews about the bass booming and distortions at high volumes I assume 9/10 times are due to the power supply; try a large generic one and you will see

I bought them hesitantly because I don't have a good sound card on my PC. For years now, I have been using the Z-10, which connect via USB bypassing the sound card, so I didn't bother to buy one. The main use is for listening to music. The speakers satisfied me fully in terms of design and build quality. However, the direct connection of the speakers to the 3.5mm jack on the onboard card disappointed me. I tried with a better 3.5mm to RCA cable. There was a clear improvement, but I still wanted something more. The use of the USB DAC CREATIVE PLAY 3 proved to be an economical yet highly effective solution for anyone who wants to avoid buying an expensive sound card. The use of the above DAC, a good 3.5mm cable, and the creative sound blaster control panel software gave me the sound I expected from the speakers. The quality of the music file also plays a huge role in the final result. MP3 at 64 or 128kbps significantly degrades the sound. I also confirm that the auxiliary port produces better sound than the rear input port of the audio jack. The conclusion is that the speakers have the ability to produce high-quality sound but do not offer it out of the box. They are mainly aimed at audiophile audiences who will dedicate time to their settings and connections.
EDIT: After seven months of use, I have not encountered any problems. I upgraded the sound card from the play3 to the Sound Blaster G1. Okay, the speakers are now firing. I don't know if they have even more to offer with a more expensive card. What I do know is that the upgrade from play3 to G1 gave a significant boost to the speakers.

After a few months of purchasing these speakers, I would like to share with you a solution that truly provides good sound quality, equivalent to the previous speakers I replaced.
Coming from Logitech z-10, which had exceptional sound (after 11 years of keeping me company), I was looking for something economical with similar sound quality. The connection was, of course, for a PC with an onboard Realtek 1150 sound card. At first, I was disappointed because the sound seemed dull without any improvement from any parameter. The bass was good from the beginning, just enough to not need a subwoofer due to space constraints, but also because it was exclusively for music listening and not gaming.
My thoughts of buying a good sound card were intense to improve sound clarity and get rid of this "dull" sound...
However, after reading hundreds of comments and opinions from many websites, mainly from abroad, I realized that the solution for the additional sound clarity was simple...
I had followed the instructions and plugged the jack into the audio input port at the back of the speaker.
But if you connect it to the front aux port, the sound changes. It finally becomes clearer and provides additional clarity and volume.
The only downside is that in any case, the volume from 0 to half is nonexistent. It increases excessively from the middle onwards without any distortion. A minor flaw...
Are they worth it? Definitely for €80. With the change of connection port, I managed to have the sound I wanted.
However, be careful, sound is subjective. Always listen to speakers first before buying and don't just rely on reviews. That's why there are so many different reviews even here... ;)
P.S. I give 4 stars for the standby mode that the speakers enter without being able to turn it off...

From speakers and Hi-Fi, I will say that I started in 1976 with Magneplanar, until 2007 I had B&W 804 series 3 matrix, which have now been withdrawn in their boxes, as the way and time of music listening has completely changed. My ears have been trained with these. I don't like loudness, bass, and I can't stand distortion at all.
I have had a 2.1 Yamaha YST MS35D for 20 years, connected to a PC/laptop, previously with USB, but Windows 10 doesn't recognize it. Along the way, I bought Logitech Z10. Logitech, as usual, while they had good sound, they "spit" them out in a few years. The Yamaha proved to be an excellent purchase and only in the last year did they start to have a problem with the left channel, which is fixed by connecting/disconnecting them from the power.
Time for a change.
I heard the T40 Series II at a friend's place with jazz. Jazz and classical cover 80% of the music I listen to. I found them on sale for 80€ and preferred them over the Edifier R1700BT, which I haven't heard.
First listening on 25/07/2019
-Construction: Plastic, nothing special, glossy buttons with all that implies, a permanent blue LED on the power/volume. You can't say they are bad from any angle you look at them, easy installation of the grille, full set of cables.
-Sound: If you are used to 2.1 like me, the absence of lows becomes immediately noticeable, and I don't mean the deafening bass. Also, I didn't find the 32W, compared to the 30W of the 20-year-old Yamaha. For something more, you will need a good sound card, I have the Creative SB Play 3 that I use with 64ohm headphones. After the second listening, see * They have bass, but not of a subwoofer and it is logical. The midrange is quite clear, the vocals sound excellent for 80€. The quality of the file plays a huge role, which means that the speakers do their job well and reveal the imperfections of the mp3. High frequencies are also satisfactory for 80€ (up to that point...). In a flac file, "Wish you were here," which I have as a reference, sounded very satisfying to my "difficult" ears, the same goes for "Ripples" by Genesis in flac, with enough detail, I must say. I also found the stereo image satisfactory, sitting about 1 meter away from the speakers. In Jazz, I only listened to "Beale Street Blues" from Louis Armstrong - Plays W.C. Handy, in mp3, and I found it very enjoyable! The first test/listening ended with "Waiting for the Big One" from PG1 in flac, once again, I was impressed by the speakers for 80€!
Second test/listening on 25/7/19
I dug up Winamp with iZotope Ozone for Winamp DSP, listened to the first CD Rigoletto DG (415 288-/1980 ADD). I carefully adjusted the Ozone, Bass Compression, Tube Limiter, and Tube Saturation, for less lows and "focused" mids, volume 80 on the SBPlay3, Effects Off, volume on the T40, the knob at "3 o'clock," tone controls off at position 0. I was amazed by the performance. From track 1 Preludio I, at a high volume, I had no distortion at all, everything sounded as it should, drums, strings crystal clear. And then, track 3, Placido Domingo, Questa o quella per me pari sono (Ballata), a dream! It's not that I haven't heard it better to excellent, with big speakers and all the fancy amplifiers and cables, but to smile, listening from plastic speakers for 80€, I didn't expect that. Bravo to the "little speakers."
Third test/listening on 26/7/19
CCR 1970 Cosmo's Factory [2002 SACD 24-96 FLAC], track 10 - I Heard It Through The Grapevine. Winamp with iZotope Ozone for Winamp DSP. 9/10 without a doubt! We are talking about classic rock, which I have been listening to since my youth with different quality systems, and with the T40 MKII, I was singing along and enjoying it. In the same genre, Led Zeppelin III, Since I've Been Loving You, mp3 320VBR, how much bass do we really want? I have been listening to this song since it came out on vinyl and I truly enjoyed it with the T40. Whatever I have given them afterwards, in very familiar songs to my ears, they presented it with excellent sound, there wasn't even a single misstep! Honestly, I don't know if there is anything similar in speakers within the range of 80-100€.

Update 04/08/2019:
Whatever I have played on the T40II for playback, Mp3, flac/ape, CD, Webradio youtube, spotify etc., with a little adjustment to the EQ of SBPlay3 (and saving the changes), it sounds relaxed, loud, and without distortion! I have enjoyed more hours of music since the day I got them, than the whole of 2019.

The tests continue and the evaluation will be updated.

Simply wonderful one year later, I never regretted buying them, I haven't heard bad sound except from "bad" mp3s, in which the T40 SII don't shine and reveal the poor compression and distortion of the files.

I highly recommend them at the price of 80€-100€ (limit), to those who do NOT want deafening/fake bass, very strong intensities submerged in distortion, and to those whose musical tastes match mine. If the Yamaha speakers hadn't presented a problem and I had listened to the T40 Series II, I wouldn't have spent 130€ to acquire them (I highly recommend them up to 100€ without reservation).

* (with a good sound card and a good DSP with input/output gain and detailed adjustment of mid and especially low frequencies, they transform into exceptional speakers)
