Achilleas Tzartzanos

Achilleas Tsartzanos came from a poor family of eight (the only son with five sisters), with a father who was a weaver and a mother who was a quilt maker, as noted by Professor Christos Tsolakis. He completed primary school and secondary education in Tyrnavos and high school in Larissa with excellent grades. After his university studies at the School of Philosophy at the University of Athens (where he was taught by G. N. Hatzidakis), he graduated in 1900 as a distinguished Doctor of Philology and served in the field of education. Notably, while he was a student at the School of Philosophy, between 1890 and 1892, he worked as an assistant school teacher in Tyrnavos and Larissa. He served as a Greek language teacher in Larissa and Attica from 1892 to 1900. He was a headmaster and high school and teacher training college professor in Larissa from 1901 to 1910. In 1910, he was appointed as a professor in Athens (at Varvakeio and Marasleio). In 1911, he married Antonia, the sister of Panagis Lorenzatos. In 1914, he became the General Inspector of the 1st Educational District. From 1917 to 1926, he was appointed as an Educational Advisor. He authored a series of scientific treatises, linguistic, historical, folkloric, and educational books. However, the most well-known and significant part of his work pertains to essential resources for teaching ancient and modern Greek language.
