Alki Kyriakidou - Nestoros

Alki Kyriakidou-Nestoros (Thessaloniki, 1935-1988) was a folklorist and university professor, daughter of the folklore professor at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), Stilpon Kyriakidis. She studied at the Faculty of Philosophy at AUTH and continued her studies in sociology and folklore in Pennsylvania, USA, and later in Paris. There, she met and was influenced by the anthropologist Claude Lévi-Strauss. In 1976, she succeeded her father in the folklore chair at AUTH. Her research primarily focused on Greek folk culture, and she authored numerous related studies. She also translated works by Lévi-Strauss. Shortly before her death in 1988, she donated the personal archive and library of Stilpon Kyriakidis to the archive of the Faculty of Philosophy at AUTH. She passed away in Thessaloniki from cancer.
