Tilemachos CHytiris

Telemachos Chytiris was born in Kouramades, Corfu, in 1945. His father was a well-known scholar on the island. He studied agronomy in Pisa and philosophy in Florence, where he wrote his first poems and participated in Italian poetry competitions. His first collection, "Poems with Premeditation," was published in 1973 (Kedros). Since then, he has published several other poetry collections and translated the Italian poems of Giorgos Sarantaris (Gavriilidis 2016). From 1979 to 1981, he directed the annual cultural publication "Chronicle," issued by the Spiritual and Artistic Center ORA of Asadour Baharian. He has participated in Visual Poetry exhibitions in Greece and abroad. His poems have been translated into Italian, French, English, German, and Romanian and have been published in Greek and international magazines and anthologies. In 1993, he was elected as a Member of Parliament with PASOK. He served as the Press Representative for Andreas Papandreou and held various ministerial positions (Press, Culture) until 2012, when he retired from politics. He is married to Maria Farantouri, and they have a son, Stefanos.
