Ioannis M. Konidaris

Ioannis M. Konidaris is a Professor of Ecclesiastical Law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Athens. He was born in Chios in 1948 and hails from both Kefalonia and Chios. He studied law at the University of Athens and economics and political sciences at the University of Thessaloniki. He has been a lawyer since 1973. He pursued postgraduate studies at the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Munich (1974-1978). He earned his Doctorate in Law from the University of Athens in 1979 and served as a research associate at the Faculty of Law of the University of Frankfurt and the Max Planck Institute for European Legal History (1978-1981, 1989-1990). He became an Associate Professor in 1985 and a Full Professor in 1995. He served as the Director of the Research Center for the History of Greek Law at the Academy of Athens (1994-2000), Special Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs on ecclesiastical matters (1996-1999, 2001), and Secretary General for Religious Affairs at the Ministry of National Education and Religious Affairs (2001-2004). He has been directing the Library of Ecclesiastical Law since 1999 and the Review of Ecclesiastical and Canon Law "Nomokanonika" since 2002. He holds the title of Archon Megas Dikaiophylax of the Great Church of Christ (2001).
