CHaris A. Kalliga

Charis Calliga hails from Symi and was born in Cairo. She studied architecture and, for the past 30 years, has been restoring houses in the Castle of Monemvasia alongside Alexandros Calligas. Their work was honored in 1980 with the Europa Nostra medal. Additionally, Charis Calliga researches the history of Monemvasia from its founding to the present day, as well as the history of other places and monuments. Since October 1995, she has been the director of the Gennadius Library. Besides publications related to her restoration and historical activities, she has published another poetry collection, "Minoa Akra" (Athens, Leschi 1979), and a book of watercolors about Monemvasia, the sea, and octopuses (with Al. G. Calligas), "8x8+8" (Monemvasia, 1991). She has held two painting exhibitions, in 1993 (Anemos Gallery, Kifisia) and 1995 (Princeton University).
