
Georgia Petraki
Georgia Petraki is a professor in the Department of Social Policy at Panteion University. She was born in Crete and studied Business Administration in Athens (Athens University of Economics and Business) and Social Sciences in Paris (Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes) on a scholarship from the French government. She earned her Ph.D. in Sociology from Paris 7 University, and her dissertation was published (2002, Gutenberg Editions) under the title "From the Field to the Factory: The Formation of the Industrial Proletariat in Modern Lavrio." She has collaborated with the Labor Institute of the Greek General Confederation of Labor (GSEE) and published the book "Social Correlations and Employer Policies of Labor Management and Control (1950-1993)" (1996, INE-GSEE). Her research and publications focus on labor sociology. She is active in local environmental protection initiatives (Asyrmatos, preservation of open spaces) and human rights (migration issues). She is a member of the Gender Equality Secretariat in the Municipality of Agios Dimitrios.
