Ioanna Mpourazopoulou

Ioanna Bourazopoulou was born in Athens in 1968. She studied Hotel Management at the Higher School of Tourism Professions in Rhodes and pursued postgraduate studies in International Hotel Management at the University of Buckingham in England. She worked in the tourism industry until 2000. In 2002, she graduated from the National School of Public Administration, specializing in Health Unit Management, and currently works in the Health Services Programs of the Second Regional Health System of Attica. She has written novels, plays, and short stories. Her writings have been published in Greek and European literary journals. Five of her novels and one children's book are available from Kastaniotis Editions. Her works fall into the category of speculative fiction and political dystopia, depicting future power systems, imaginary societies in crisis or transition, and conflicting worldviews. Her novel "What Lot's Wife Saw" was awarded the 2008 "The Athens Prize for Literature" by (de)kata magazine and is available in French and English translations. In 2013, the English newspaper "The Guardian" listed it among the best science fiction books of the year, and it was nominated for the British Science Fiction Association Award. Her latest work, "The Dragon of Prespa I - The Valley of Mud," received the novel award from the Academy of Athens (Kostas and Eleni Ourani Foundation) and the novel award from "Klepsydra" magazine. She was an honored guest at FantastiCon 2017.
