Giannis Tsiros

Giannis Tziros was born in the region of Messinia and grew up in Athens. He studied design and photography and took music lessons. Between 1991 and 1993, he attended courses at the Department of Theatre Studies in Athens. Professionally, he has been involved in journalistic photography, music, jewelry design and creation, radio, and television. Since 1990, he has been writing film scripts and theatrical plays. Works: "The Cakes of Hatred" (short film), "The Fading Light" (feature film, co-written), "Who Kills the Children" (theatrical play), "The Counter" (TV movie adapted from a short story, co-written), "Unshaven Chins" (theatrical play), "Dionysios Solomos" (feature film - unfinished production), "Men Don't Cry" (short film), "Volcano" (short film), "Press" (theatrical play), "The Mountain Ahead" (feature film), "Four Eyes" (theatrical play), "Apnea" (feature film), "Invisible Olga" (theatrical play - commissioned by the National Theatre), "Cannons and Trumpets" (theatrical play - in production), "Free Waters" (theatrical play for teenagers - produced by the Foundation of Letters and Arts). Awards: The film "The Fading Light" won the 1st prize for Best Foreign Film at the Lecce International Festival (Italy) in 2001, the 1st prize for Poetic Film at the Moscow International Festival (2002), the 1st prize for Best Film at the Cairo International Festival (2002), and the Audience Award at the Mediterranean Festival in Cologne (2002). The play "Unshaven Chins" received the First State Award for a Debut Playwright at the Ministry of Culture's theatrical competition in 2004. The film "The Mountain Ahead" won the 3rd prize for Best Film at the Moscow Festival in 2010. The play "Four Eyes" received the Karolos Koun Dramaturgy Award in 2010. The film "Apnea" won the FIPRESCI Award and the Audience Award at the Thessaloniki Festival in 2010.
