Alexandros N. Tombazis was born in India on April 10, 1939. Education: He graduated from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) School of Architecture in 1962, excelling and receiving the Thomaidio and Chrysovergio awards. Professional Activity: - 1963-65: Curator at NTUA in the Department of Architectural Design. - 1964-66: Conducted theoretical studies and research as a scientific assistant to C. A. Doxiadis. - 1964-67: Collaborated with architect Th. Sartzeta. - 1963: Founded the Alexandros N. Tombazis Design Office. Judge, Committees: - Participated as a judge in numerous international and national competitions. - Member of various expert committees on alternative energy sources and bioclimatic architectural design. - 1994-96: Visiting examiner at the School of Architecture, University of Dublin. - 1997-99, 2003: Visiting examiner at the School of Architecture, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow. Visiting examiner at the School of Architecture, University of Dublin. Lectures, Conferences: - Has given lectures in Greece and over 24 countries abroad. Distinctions: - 1991: Elected Honorary Member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). - 1994: Awarded the Greek European EUROSOLAR Award 1994. - 1995: Solar Village 3 awarded the HABITAT II award. - 1996: Awarded the gold medal in the field of Passive Solar Architecture at the 4th Renewable Energy Congress, Denver, USA. - 1997: "Professional Career of a Designer" award by the Association of Greek Design Offices (SEGM) - 1998: PLEA (Passive and Low Energy Architecture) Award Exhibitions, Publications: - Has published articles and has had his work featured in many books and magazines both in Greece and abroad. - 1991: Invited along with D. and S. Antonakakis and N. Valsamakis to represent Greece at the Venice Biennale. - 1993: Publication of a monograph on the 30 years of architectural work of the office (Space and Arts Issues 24/1993) and a retrospective exhibition at the French Institute of Athens. - 1999: Personal painting exhibition at Zoumboulakis Gallery, Athens - 2002: Monograph "Tombazis and Associates Architects. Less is Beautiful" by L' Arca Edizioni. - 2003: Documentary on the office's work "The Game of Architecture" for the NET program Paraskinio.
