Georgios K. Zachos
Georgios K. Zachos was born in Varvara, Chalkidiki, in 1956. He graduated from the Department of Mathematics at the University of Ioannina and pursued postgraduate studies (M.Sc.) in the Department of Library and Information Science at Loughborough University, UK, as a British Council scholar (1989), and completed his PhD at the same university (1994). He worked as a mathematics teacher in secondary schools in Konitsa and Kalentzi (1982-1983), as a staff member of the University of Ioannina Library (1983-1999), as the library director (1999-2002), and as the general director of the National Library of Greece (2002-2005). Since 2005, he has been the director of the Library and Information Center at the University of Ioannina, and since 2010, the president of the National Library Council of the Ministry of Education, Lifelong Learning, and Religious Affairs. He has taught at the Department of Library Science and Archives at the Ionian University (as a lecturer under Presidential Decree 407, at the rank of associate professor), as well as in seminars organized by ELKEPA, the National Welfare Organization, among others. He is married to Marina Vrelli, an associate professor of folklore in the Department of History and Archaeology at the University of Ioannina, with whom he has one daughter.
