Gianna Mpoukova

Gianna Boukova is a bilingual poet, prose writer, and translator, born in Sofia, Bulgaria. She has published three poetry collections, a short story collection, and a novel in Bulgarian. She studied Classical Philology at Sofia University, and her translations have brought over ten books of contemporary Greek poetry, the complete surviving works of Sappho, the complete works of Catullus, and Pindar's "Pythian Odes" (State Translation Award 2012) to her home country. Since 1994, she has been living in Athens. She is a member of the "Greek Poetry Now" platform and the editorial team of the poetry magazine "FRMK". She has participated in organizing and performing alternative poetry readings, poetic performances, and interactive language games. She writes reviews and presentations of poetry books. Her poetry collection "The Minimal Garden" is available in Greek, published by Ikaros in 2006, translated by Dimitris Allos. Her poems and prose have been translated into twelve languages, including English, French, Spanish, Arabic, and German, and have been featured in numerous anthologies such as "Austerity Measures: the new Greek poetry" (Penguin Books, 2016, New York Review of Books, 2017), "Kleine Tiere zum Schlachten. Neue Gedichte aus Griechenland" (Parasitenpresse, Köln, 2017), "Best European Fiction 2017" (Dalkey Archive, US), among others. Her poetry collection "Drapetomania" (Mikri Arktos, 2018) was written in Greek.
