John Williams

John Williams was born in Texas in 1922 to farmer parents and became a university professor. He began writing his first novel in 1942, followed by several poems, and then "Stoner," which was the first of his works to receive some attention at the time. His next work, "Augustus," achieved greater success, winning the National Book Award for Fiction in 1973, and focused on the Roman emperor. He passed away in 1994, unaware of the success "Stoner" enjoys today.
