As February approaches, many couples are looking for ways to spend Valentine's Day, so what could be more ideal than a home movie night, with nice food and cuddling?! 

Amour

Georges and Anne, in their 80s, are retired music teachers. One day, Anne suffers a mild stroke and her body becomes paralyzed on one side, a fact that will seriously test the couple. Love, affection, care, and death are redefined and gain deeper meaning in a relationship of so many years.

Moonrise Kingdom

On an island off the coast of New England in the 1960s, a 12-year-old boy and girl fall in love and run away together. The entire town mobilizes to find the two children, who have camped on a beach with a record player. An adorable pastel setting, characteristic of Wes Anderson, accompanied by the music of Alexandre Desplat.

The Constant Gardener

When Justin, a diplomat from Great Britain, learns that his activist wife has been found murdered in Kenya, he embarks on a journey to find her killers, while simultaneously uncovering an unimaginable conspiracy surrounding the criminal activities of pharmaceutical companies in Africa. The film is based on the novel of the same name by John le Carré.

Call me by your name

Based on the famous novel by André Aciman, the film tells us about the summer of a teenager's sexual awakening in an idyllic setting in the Italian countryside, in the summer of 1983. Elio, a very intelligent and charismatic seventeen-year-old, spends the summer with his parents reading, taking walks, and flirting with Marzia, with whom he develops a romantic relationship, when he suddenly meets Oliver, a graduate student of his father with whom a very intense relationship will be formed and through which Elio will experience his first romantic disappointment.

The lobster

In a dystopian future, people are required to live only in pairs. If these pairs break up, they have the opportunity to move to a hotel to find their ideal partner - with whom they must share a common characteristic - otherwise, they will be transformed into an animal of their choice. Our protagonist, unable to find his other half and with his deadline approaching, decides to escape to the forest. There, he meets an anarchist group of solitary people who forbid their members from forming relationships, but unexpectedly, he finds love within the group. 

Normal People

Last but not least, in my opinion, is Normal People. A mini-series of 12 episodes in which we follow the relationship of Marianne and Connell over the years and its fluctuations. The two main characters of the series live in a small town in Ireland and have quite different backgrounds (on a socio-economic level), yet they develop an extremely emotional relationship with many twists and difficulties. In the series, we follow the lives of the characters for about 8 years with all their ups and downs, breakups, mental illnesses, toxic/abusive partners and relatives, but also the two of them coming in and out of each other's lives, always playing a pivotal role. The realistic elements and the connection created by the characters prevent the series from becoming melodramatic and clichéd while also helping the viewer to deconstruct and redefine the stigma of mental health and its influence on human relationships.
