PS5 Pro: The most powerful PlayStation is here

Sony released the PS5 Pro a few hours ago, its most powerful console to date, and it is worth gathering here everything you need to know about the system. This console comes to close the hardware gap since the original PS5 was released, and with this new product Sony wants to offer even better performance, higher resolutions, better frame rates, and an overall better result.

The new PlayStation 5 Pro offers a significant upgrade over its predecessor, with three major enhancements, such as the larger GPU, advanced Ray Tracing, and AI-Driven Upscaling.

The new console from Sony provides the option for higher framerates and higher quality graphics with smooth and stable 60FPS.

Let's quickly see what this new console has to offer:

  • Faster GPU
  • Upscaling technology PSSR
  • Ray tracing features
  • Improvements for PS4/PS5 games
  • 2TB hard drive
PS5 Pro: The most powerful PlayStation is here

In short, the PS5 Pro costs €799 and offers 67% more compute units and 28% faster memory, which leads to 45% faster rendering and nearly triple the ray tracing power of the standard PS5. With the help of PSSR (PlayStation Super Spectral Resolution), games are enhanced with the help of artificial intelligence and are offered as close as possible to native 4K.

The 2TB storage space comes to solve several issues we had with the original console when many games started being released, but the internal space for adding an extra NVMe SSD remains. The issue is that since it does not come with a Blu-ray drive, you will need to purchase a Blu-ray drive to attach it and be able to use the discs you have until today. Otherwise, you can transfer the Blu-ray drive from your PS5 Slim there. Finally, the system now supports Wi-Fi 7 for its wireless communication.

Developers have the ability to upgrade their games for the PS5 Pro and make them PS5 Pro Enhanced, taking advantage of the extra processing power. For example, there are games that have a refreshed display settings menu that makes the console’s advantages obvious, as well as others that simply offer the existing options, improved. At the moment there is no indication anywhere in the menu of whether a game has been upgraded to a PS5 Pro Enhanced version, but we imagine this will be resolved in the near future.

What is interesting, however, is that even games that have not been upgraded by developers for the PS5 Pro immediately take advantage of the extra power, since for example Gran Turismo 7 runs without any patch already with more frames per second, specifically at 4K120fps levels. Similarly, the graphics in PS4 games are also improved, where after rendering, the console passes the image through a filter to “clean” it up.

Let’s not forget to simply mention that the package does not include a stand for horizontal placement, which you will need to purchase separately (if you need it).
