Double Cleansing: What Is It & How to Incorporate It into Your Beauty Routine

Regardless of how many skincare steps you have in your morning and evening routine, there are two that are the most important: cleansing and moisturizing.

In the second case, we all know the importance of moisturizer. But in the first case, did you know that washing your face only once a day is not enough

According to skincare experts, this extra step of double cleansing is what makes all the difference in achieving flawless skin and is the only way to maximize the absorption of the products you will apply to your skin afterward.

What is double cleansing & what are its benefits?

Double Cleansing Method or in simple Greek the method of Double Cleansing, is the cleansing of the face with two different types of cleansers. First, you apply a cleansing product that is oil-based and then a cleansing product that is water-based. What is achieved with double cleansing is that the first one removes makeup (or its residues), SPF from sunscreen creams, as well as the oiliness secreted by your own skin. Thus, the second cleanser penetrates better into the skin's pores and effectively and deeply removes any skin impurities, as well as sweat. Before applying your oil-based cleanser, you can remove most of your makeup with a micellar water.

In this way, you not only achieve better cleansing, but you also offer rejuvenation to dull and tired skin, helping it to better prepare for skincare products, so that they are absorbed more immediately and invigorate it.

Why is the second cleansing product not enough?

Even a deep and effective cleansing product cannot penetrate the skin effectively to complete the pore cleansing when the skin has a layer of sweat, sebum, pollutants, and makeup residues on its surface. This is where the "saving" intervention of the first cleansing product comes in, which will remove all of the above from the skin, allowing better access for deep pore cleansing.

When should you do double cleansing?

Since our skin is already in good condition in the morning, you can follow a single cleansing step and apply double cleansing in your evening routine. That is the right time to remove makeup, sunscreen, and anything else you have applied to your skin during the day!

Is it suitable for all skin types?

Yes! It is suitable for every skin type. It’s just that some types benefit even more from it than others. Oily, sensitive, and acne-prone skin, for example, respond exceptionally well to this kind of cleansing, because it is always better to use two gentle facial cleansers in combination rather than one harsher one that, in the end, simply tires and “pulls” at our skin. It may seem tempting to go to bed without cleaning your face, but is it worth sacrificing the glow, firmness, and youthful appearance of your face for 5 more minutes of sleep?
