New MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Touchscreen and MacBook Pro with M6: Everything Apple Announced

The first touchscreen on a Mac, a 12-core M6 chip and up to 24 hours of battery life: what’s changing in the MacBook Pro lineup and which model is right for your work.

Apple introduced two new MacBook Pros in two days. On October 27, it announced the 14-inch MacBook Pro with the new M6 chip, and on October 28, the MacBook Pro with a PROLED XDR display, the first Mac with a touchscreen. Preorders opened on October 28, and both models arrive in stores on Friday, November 6.

See what each one offers, how they differ, and which one suits the way you work.

MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR: the first Mac with a touchscreen

The new MacBook Pro PROLED XDR comes in 14-inch and 16-inch models and changes three things that have stayed the same for years: the display, the way you interact with it, and the weight.

Tandem OLED with 2,000 nits

The PROLED XDR display features tandem OLED technology, with brightness of up to 2,000 nits in both HDR and SDR. Work comfortably beside a window or outdoors, while blacks remain truly black in dark scenes, with a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio according to Apple. ProMotion reaches up to 120Hz for smooth scrolling and drops to as low as 10Hz with static content to conserve battery.

For imaging professionals, the display covers P3 and Adobe RGB, more than 80% of Rec. 2020, and comes factory-calibrated with reference modes. Optional nano-texture glass is also available for spaces with a lot of reflections.

Touchscreen and Dynamic Island

The touch sensor is built into the panel. Scroll with a swipe, zoom with a pinch, drag files, and arrange windows with a flick. The hinge has been redesigned so the display doesn’t wobble when you touch it. Play notes and chords directly on the screen in Logic Pro, and edit and draw with your finger in Final Cut Pro and Pixelmator Pro.

The notch is replaced by a smaller Dynamic Island, like the one on iPhone, where Spotlight, Live Activities, and Siri appear.

Lighter, with the same Pro power

Inside, the M5 Pro and M5 Max deliver up to 128GB of unified memory and up to 16TB of storage. The 14-inch model weighs about 1.36 kg and the 16-inch model about 1.81 kg—around 230 and 320 grams less than before. Battery life reaches 24 hours, and charging takes it to 50% in about 30 minutes.

MacBook Pro 14'' with M6: more cores, same design

The MacBook Pro 14'' with M6 retains its familiar design and Liquid Retina XDR display, while upgrading everything inside. It’s the MacBook Pro for those who want a professional display and battery life without needing M5 Pro or M5 Max.

What’s new with M6

The new chip features a 12-core CPU and a 12-core GPU, up from 10 and 10 in the M5. Apple says graphics are up to 30% faster and on-device AI tasks up to 25% faster than on the M5. Each GPU core has its own Neural Accelerator, so you can run language models locally and use Apple Intelligence features without a cloud connection. The Neural Engine is doubled, with 32 cores in total.

Battery and connectivity

Battery life reaches 24 hours, and performance stays the same whether you’re working on battery power or plugged in. With a 96W charger, you can reach 50% charge in about 30 minutes. The N1 chip brings Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, and you can connect up to two external 4K displays at up to 165Hz.

Configurations

All versions start with 1TB of storage, with 16GB, 24GB, or 32GB of memory, in Space Black or Silver. In Greece, the starting price is €2,349 for the 16GB/1TB version. See all versions with a Greek keyboard that are already available on Skroutz:

PROLED XDR or M6: which one should you choose?

Both models share up to 24 hours of battery life, Wi-Fi 7 and a 12MP camera. The difference lies in the display and performance.

The MacBook Pro PROLED XDR is a good fit if you work with video, photography or music and want the brightest display in the lineup, touch input, and an M5 Pro or M5 Max for demanding rendering and multiple external displays. It’s also the only one of the two new options available in a 16-inch size, while being lighter than the previous MacBook Pro of the same size.

The 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 handles programming, photo editing, light video work and local AI models, with a Liquid Retina XDR display that already stands out. It costs less and is already available in all memory configurations with a Greek keyboard.
