I honestly never imagined myself paying +60e for a pillow. I've always bought these cheap 5e dacron flake pillows and used them for as long as I could. Now I have 2 major issues: the first is that my head gets slow roasted on my pillow that insanely traps heat, no exaggeration. The second is that dacron tends to get squished fairly quickly. As a side sleeper, I need to have my head properly elevated, otherwise I suffocate.
After seeing some reviews, I decided to give this Dunlopillo a shot, and I have to say I'm very pleasantly surprised. I got the medium one and it's very comfortable. It's soft enough to support my head and neck, yet firm enough to not get squished and suffocate me. It also drastically reduces the discomfort from my hot head since it doesn't trap heat as much as the dacron pillow does. Regarding the latex smell: even brand new, it doesn't smell as bad as some people complain. I could only smell the latex when I pushed my nose into it and took a deep breath. The odor is virtually non-existent and I could immediately sleep on it without issues.
The only downside is that it's not thick enough, and I had to elevate it a bit more to get it to the level that doesn't make me suffocate. To solve this issue, I put it in a cotton casing and stuffed some dacron flakes underneath it, but I only sleep on the top latex side "sleeping on dacron again would defeat the whole purpose of my new expensive pillow, eh?". This simple hack gave it some extra height and stability and allowed me to breath comfortably during sleep.
They advertise that it's machine-washable, but I haven't tested that yet.
Final verdict: is it worth the money? Definitely! You shouldn't skimp on your own comfort if you can afford it. I admit that it's not cheap, but a good night sleep is totally worth it.
