In general, he is good. I have been satisfied with the performance. I play games at 60 fps with a little lag (without a graphics card). After the upgrade, I got a graphics card and it runs smoothly and plays games very well. (My card is the Gigabyte GeForce GTX1050 Ti 4GB)

In Ubuntu 18.04, it runs Spring Boot applications (Java) for 8 hours a day and understands nothing. For development, it doesn't need anything more!

It is a very fast processor and can handle everything you need in terms of simple programs and all games. The only downside is that it generates a bit of heat and noise when playing games with the factory cooler, so if you want to play all games or do heavier work, buying a cooler is necessary.

I have it for 1 year and something.. there is nothing better.. it's Intel, it's for gaming, it doesn't have any bottlenecks with good graphics cards, you won't face any issues. Perfect

I will not record details, just the basics. It is a 6th generation i5 processor, which I believe explains a lot. If you want a worthy processor for consumer games and programs that require many quality cores and good cache memory, this is for you. With a good graphics card, you will get the best performance, even with a 1080 you will not have a bottleneck because it can handle it. You will not need to change it for several years. Do not pay attention to the comments about the impressive Ryzen processors that everyone is talking about, many games do not work well with them. Intel has always been a reliable value and I hope it stays that way. Now that the prices have not gone up again, it is worth every euro.

The processor was purchased for about 180€, brand new, and it may be the best investment I have made in a long time. It is paired with 3000 MHz memory and an Aorus 5 motherboard, and it simply rocks! There may be better options at its current price, but it is a very powerful tool for any task and processing.

I bought the processor for 178 euros and it was worth it from end to end. Now, 237 euros... I don't know what they are thinking over at Intel since 1. In a short time, the 9th generation processors will be released, which will crush the 8th generation, and 2. With the same amount of money, you can get an 8-core AMD Ryzen 7, so I wouldn't recommend it, but for the price I bought it, it was worth it by 1000.

There are no words. The CPU is a beast. Especially for gaming, with a liquid cooling (with a single radiator), I'm trying to make it go above 30 degrees Celsius and for two months, nothing... (in the heart of summer!)

All games, new and old, run smoothly. It is suitable for both budget builds and high-end systems (it's suicide to spend a fortune on an i7 while living in the same era as this Intel marvel!!!)

With closed eyes. Load it with a 1080 and the fps will flow like a river!

Very good processor for its price. I paired it with a Gigabyte B360M DS3H motherboard and 8GB G.Skill Ripjaws V memory at 2666 and I am very satisfied.

I have been completely satisfied with the processor, it performs flawlessly in games with very good temperatures after hours of usage at around 50%, depending on the game. I run all the latest titles at 1080p ultra settings, along with an RX 580 8GB and 8GB of RAM.
It also performs very well in video editing after a relaxed edit that I did, but for more demanding edits, people usually go for the 8600k or even better, the 8700k, or a Ryzen platform due to more cores. However, for gaming, it is a very affordable solution and slightly better than the Ryzen 1600, which falls within the same price range.
One downside to the whole Coffee Lake story is that they require a new motherboard for the 8th generation, the previous motherboards are not compatible even though they are 1151.
From my perspective, it is highly recommended for gaming and relaxed editing.

I was initially aiming for the i7 8700, but the benchmarks fortunately made me buy this gem. Where do I start? I mostly use it for gaming, but sometimes for image editing as well. It has handled everything I've thrown at it without even overclocking, in combination with a Gigabyte GTX 1060 6GB, 8GB Corsair Vengeance LPX RAM at 3600 MHz, and a Cooler Master liquid cooler that cost 77€. It runs everything flawlessly, I play Overwatch, R6, Fortnite, Ghost Recon, and Project Cars 2 on ultra settings at 1080p, all at 60-100 fps, with idle temperatures at 20-30 degrees and reaching 50 degrees during loading. I believe it's a purchase you can make without hesitation

It is armored. It is faster than older i7 processors, it can be perfectly combined with graphics cards that are €300 more expensive than it, it does not reach high temperatures, and in combination with its price, it is the best gaming option before the top category (i.e. systems with GTX 1080, etc).

Update December 2018: Since the RTX cards came out, I was able to get a used 1080 at a good price, and I had the opportunity to test the 8400 (which I bought for €165) with it. No bottlenecking in known games, the processor even allows a ~€600 card to work at maximum.

After 1 month of use, it runs at 3.9 and with its case cooler (which strangely is not noisy!!!) after 5-6 hours of gaming, it stays at 40-42 C and its fan at 45-50%.
For its price, having 6 cores and such behavior, I consider it excellent! The power consumption is also a big positive.

Over time, various CPUs have passed through my hands, such as the 4790k, 6700k, 7700k, and now this one. Initially, I have to say that I was afraid since it was the first time I bought a locked CPU. Honestly, I didn't notice any difference in games and Photoshop for image editing. I usually play at 1440p at 100fps and the 8400 works at a maximum of 80%. It runs cool and constantly at 3.8 on all cores. Paired with an MSI Z370 Pro Carbon, 1070 Ti, and 16GB of 3200MHz RAM. It's worth the few euros it asks for, with the stock cooler reaching a maximum of 62 degrees, but I recommend adding a cheap liquid cooling solution, not that it needs it, just to have less noise. That's it from me, get it for gaming and image editing.

Purchased for 210Euros together with Gigabyte Z370 HD3P for 140Euros. With the stock cooler, it stays at 30C idle and 60C under stress. It operates consistently at 3.8-3.9 GHz and on all 6 cores. In combination with the ASUS GTX 1060 6GB 9Gbps with 1280 cuda cores, it provides decent times for amateur Deep Learning. All in all, satisfied with a locked CPU that will be replaced in 3-4 years and (as for the mobo) with the question of whether Intel will invest in the Coffee Lake architecture and not throw it away.

In a stress test with the stock cooler, it was playing at 70-74 degrees, and I plan to get another cooler, not because it doesn't do the job, but because the Intel cooler is noisy.
Gaming??? It rocks!!! With a GTX 1060, it consistently stays below 50%. Finally, after at least 5 years, the CPU.
UPDATE: After 6 months, nothing has changed! The processor is blowing! The temperatures I mentioned, 70-74 degrees, were only reached during stress tests, but now, during the summer, while playing GTA 5, the temperatures are skyrocketing and hitting around 70 degrees, which I set to stay at 60-70 and reach 80% fan speed, and from 70 degrees, it goes up to 100%. I'm willing to spend 30€ on a Cooler Master cooler because the noise from the Intel cooler at 80%+ fan speed is unbearable.
Also, you should know that it can easily handle 4K resolution and even a 1080 Ti, with a maximum usage of 70%

+ No need for an after-market cooler!

I was interested in the Ryzen 1600, but the gaming benchmarks show that it is superior! Combined with the motherboard, the price is about 30 euros higher than the Ryzen, which I believe is worth it!
