For half a century, Hans-Georg Gadamer observed and took part in, first as a student and then as a professor, the intellectual currents at the most important universities in Germany (Breslau, Leipzig, Frankfurt, Heidelberg).
In this book, the great philosopher of the twentieth century speaks about those years, the years of philosophical apprenticeship, as he calls them. From his student days and his contact with Paul Natorp, Nikolai Hartmann, and, above all, Martin Heidegger, to his time as a lecturer in Breslau and Marburg, we follow, through the eyes of one of the key figures, a philosophical world in its infancy and at the same time the echo of history.
