In her youth, the Spetses woman Eleni Boukoura dressed as a man in order to be able to study painting in Italy, married the painter Saverio Altamura, gave birth to her children (among them the marine painter Ioannis Altamura), returned abandoned by her husband to Athens, and worked as a painter.
In her old age, she lived two decades alone and confined in the seaside house of Spetses, now a disarmed painter and a grieving mother, surrounded by whispers of practicing magic and madness.
Her life, dramatic, provocative, full of twists and contradictions, rolled on for the first Greek female painter, for whom we still do not have all the keys. The novel Eleni or Nobody tried to approach the life and legend of this real, always relevant Eleni, with its own keys.
