Description

Description

Port or Porto is one of the most famous dessert wines that highlighted Portugal and placed it on the world wine map. It is one of the oldest appellations in the world (1756) and owes its name not to the region where it is produced, but to the port from which it is traded.

The areas where the grapes entitled to the Port or Porto appellation are cultivated are inland, about 70 km from the port and towards the Spanish border. The entire cultivation area that extends above the river is formed in terraced levels.

As with all vins de liqueur, the addition of alcohol is the necessary step to stop alcoholic fermentation and preserve the unfermented sugars. In the case of Port, the alcohol added is the local aguardiente spirit. The sweet wine produced has an alcohol content that reaches 19%-20% vol, and its quality is determined by the correct timing of the spirit addition.

Taylor’s Port Wine was founded in 1692 and is one of the oldest and most renowned in the production of port wines with large reserves of rare port wines. Today, the name Taylor’s is a sign of quality and consistency.
