Alkis Alkaios was one of the most important lyric poets of recent decades in Greek song. His lyrics, constantly oscillating between optimism and pessimism, harmoniously intertwine the erotic with the social, while a dominant position is given to history and mythology. Certain recurring motifs, a dominant and omnipotent "you," as well as the conjunction of realism and fairy-tale elements are among the characteristics of Alkaios' poetry. Until the poet's death, there were 153 recorded songs with his lyrics. The entirety of Alkaios' published work so far consists of 187 songs, which are included in this edition.
