Description & Specifications

Basic Features

  • Keyboard: 61 semi-weighted keys with velocity sensitivity and aftertouch

  • Synthesizer Architecture: 16-voice hybrid polyphonic synthesizer (2-part bitimbral)

  • Oscillators: 3 New Oxford oscillators per voice using FPGA technology (analog waveforms, wavetables, direct FM)

  • Filters (VCFs): Dual analog filter per voice (multimode 12/24 dB low-pass, band-pass, high-pass, dual/parallel/series routing)

  • Modulation (Envelopes & LFOs): 3 ADSR generators and 2 LFOs per voice (+ 2 global LFOs)

  • Routing Surface (Matrix): 16-slot modulation matrix

  • Built-in Effects: Analog distortion per voice (pre- and post-filter) + FPGA DSP effects (analog-sounding chorus, delay, reverb)

  • Arpeggiator: Advanced arpeggiator with 33 patterns and chord FX

  • Analog Audio Outputs: 2x balanced 1/4" TRS (Main L/R), 2x balanced 1/4" TRS (Aux L/R) & 1/4" stereo headphone output

  • Analog Audio Inputs: Stereo audio input, 2x 1/4" TS (L/Mono, R) for processing external sources

  • USB & MIDI Connectivity: MIDI In/Out/Thru (5-pin DIN) & USB Type-B (USB-MIDI)

  • Pedal Inputs: 2 multi-function pedal inputs (expression/sustain)

  • Dimensions: 998 x 302 x 92 mm

  • Weight: 11.0 kg

New Oxford Oscillators & FPGA Technology

The Novation Summit harnesses FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) technology through its digitally generated New Oxford Oscillators. Each of its 16 voices features 3 independent oscillators that produce traditional analog waveforms (Saw, Square/Pulse, Triangle, Sine), digital wavetables, and direct FM (Frequency Modulation) synthesis. Operating at an exceptionally high sampling frequency eliminates digital artifacts (aliasing), preserving the warmth and natural character of analog synthesizers.

Analog Filters, VCAs & Distortion Stages

Despite the oscillators’ digital sound generation, the subsequent signal path remains fully analog. Each voice features a dual Analog Multimode Filter, configurable for Low-pass, Band-pass or High-pass operation with a slope of 12 dB/octave or 24 dB/octave, and in series or parallel. The signal passes through analog amplifiers (VCAs) and includes three independent stages of analog distortion (Pre-filter, Post-filter and Global analog overdrive).

Dual Mode (Bitimbral) & Extended Real-Time Control

The 16-voice polyphony can be split into two independent 8-voice parts (Part A and Part B). The instrument supports Split (keyboard division), Layer (simultaneous playback of two sounds) and Dual (routing parts to separate analogue outputs) modes. The Summit’s front panel provides nearly one control per parameter (knob-per-function), with 50 rotary knobs, faders, switches and an OLED display for immediate adjustments without navigating complex menus.

Modulation Matrix, Digital Effects & Connectivity

The synthesizer features a 16-slot Modulation Matrix, allowing multiple modulation sources (LFOs, Envelopes, Aftertouch, Mod Wheel) to be routed to dozens of parameter destinations. The output section includes a high-resolution DSP digital effects processor (FPGA-driven) for atmospheric Reverb, Delay and Chorus. For connectivity, it offers a main stereo output (Main L/R Balanced TRS), an auxiliary stereo output (Aux L/R Balanced TRS), a stereo audio input (Audio Input 2x 1/4" TS) for processing external sources through the analog filters and effects, a full set of MIDI (In/Out/Thru 5-pin DIN) ports, a USB-MIDI port, and 2 pedal inputs (Multi-function Pedal inputs).
