Description & Specifications

An eight-year-old child experiences the shocking events of 1940-41 and captures them vividly and with emotion in his personal diary. The new book by Konstantinos Ch. Chatziotis represents a valuable and entirely unique testimony of a pivotal period in our modern history.

“The pages of this book serve as the testimony that this child recorded during the 182 days that the miracle of the great, unparalleled epic of the Northern Epirus mountains lasted. Much has been written about the epic of ’40, which can be characterized in many ways as the peak moment of the nation since the rebirth of the Greek State. And, certainly, much more will be written. Because such historical moments, no matter how much they are analyzed, and no matter how deeply and thoroughly they are researched, never lose their relevance and charm.

However, as much as I searched through all the related texts that I found, they have been written by people who experienced the epic as creators: political and military leaders, front-line fighters and those in the rear, famous and unknown heroes, who have stories to remember and tell related to the role each of them played during that time. However, none of these numerous testimonies, as far as I know, come from a child. The author Konstantinos Ch. Chatziotis is making a remarkable document public, almost 70 years later: the diary he kept as a child during the war of 1940-41.

Through the eyes and fiery imagination of an eight-year-old boy, the most significant events of that heroic yet tragic period for Greece and the world are painted in the brightest colors.
