The odor reminds me of iodine paint, and it doesn't go away no matter what. I boiled water in the device 10 times and each time I had to throw it away because the water absorbed the strong smell from the machine. I also boiled water with detergent, but that didn't do anything either. On the 12th try, I even tried drinking the water I boiled, and I could taste the chemical or plastic or whatever it is that causes this awful smell.
January 30, 2023: I'm coming back to add more information. After 15 boils, the water no longer has a chemical taste, although the bad smell remains, although it decreases with each boil.
July 5, 2023: The unpleasant smell remains strong.
July 27, 2023: Today I did what I should have done a long time ago. I threw it away and got another one.
