It removes 95% of total dissolved solids and 99% of chlorine, as well as heavy metals, soil, sediment, pipe rust, bacteria, microbes, Cryptosporidium, Salmonella, and traces of plastics, petroleum products, and pesticides. After the first four stages, the fifth improves the properties of the treated water.
