Application Tips

  • Use black Plasti Dip as a base (6 good "hands") for the perfect result. It cannot be sprayed directly onto the surface alone!
  • When the temperature is low, there is a chance that Plasti Dip® may not spray evenly because it freezes. The best option is to immerse the spray in warm water for 5-10 minutes or warm it up on a radiator. This causes the mixture inside to soften, resulting in a smooth finish.
  • Before applying Plasti Dip® on a car or motorcycle, it is advisable not to have applied any polish or wax beforehand, as this may prevent proper adhesion of the Plasti Dip®.
  • Never paint a car or motorcycle if it has a factory paint job. At least one year should pass to avoid problems with the varnish.
  • When creating a stripe on a surface to achieve a straight line, remove the tape after the sixth "hand" (enough to achieve a good result) while the Plasti Dip® is still wet. This is because Plasti Dip® has the property of re-liquefying when it comes into contact with a already painted surface. Otherwise, if you remove the tape after it dries, the straight line will be damaged.
  • Always hold the spray or gun perpendicular to the surface. Keep the distance at 10-15 cm.
  • It's best to spray in a location free of wind, as air might blow the material away and cause the paint to dry in an unwanted area. This could result in a rough texture similar to sandpaper instead of a smooth finish.
  • Always clean the surface thoroughly before painting and ensure there is no moisture in any crevices.
  • During colder periods, each "hand" takes longer to dry.
  • You can wash your car or motorcycle after about 10 days without fear, even with a pressure washer. In the first few weeks, extra caution is recommended. Over time, Plasti Dip® becomes very durable. We recommend applying a special wax like Dip Protect approximately every month and a half.
  • The thickened Plasti Dip® mixture with thinner for spraying through a gun is in a 1:1 ratio. There is also a diluted spray version of Plasti Dip® with better formulation, coverage, and durability that can be sprayed directly.
  • To spray Plasti Dip® correctly, use a spray gun with a nozzle of 1.5-2mm, set the pressure low (1.5-2 bar), and ensure it can spray in a vertical open fan pattern. The amount of material can be adjusted because the first "hand" should be gentle, acting as a primer (covering about 50%). The remaining 6 "hands" should be applied generously.
  • Apply at least 6 good "hands," especially on large surfaces like a car, to enable easy removal in large pieces when desired.
  • Never wash with active foam, commonly used in car washes. Use only simple soapy water.
  • Be careful with gasoline. Contact with Plasti Dip® can cause it to fade. It is advisable to inform gas station staff.
  • High Gloss Top Coat: Apply 3 good "hands" for optimal results. Allow approximately 30 minutes between each "hand." The spray should be applied quickly to avoid running. The smoother the underlying Plasti Dip®, the greater the reflection of the high gloss top coat.
