It is 100 pieces. More than you may ever need.
I have tried it both ways, and they managed to hold a small category router upside down on the desk.

I generally recommend it, just make sure they will actually be useful to you. But I think it's not a bad idea to have them in the closet for future use for cable management.
And it has slots everywhere to apply the zipper as you want.
