Description

Single malt Whisky that matures for at least 12 years in a combination of the finest Spanish Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso sherry casks. Natural color and 43% alcohol content, GlenDronach 12 Years Old is a sweet, creamy whisky.

Characteristics:

  • Appearance: Deep amber gold.
  • Nose: Sweet, creamy vanilla with notes of ginger. Warm, spiced wine (mulled wine) and pear.
  • Palate: Rich, creamy, velvety smooth. Warm, rich sweetness from oak and sherry, full mouthfeel, raisins, and soft fruits. Spicy with medium length and dry finish.
  • Finish: Long, full and firm, slight nutty flavor.

Why GlenDronach 12 Will Become Your Favorite Malt:

  • The Art of Sherry Cask: Aged for at least 12 years in a masterful combination of the finest Spanish Pedro Ximenez barrels (for sweetness) and Oloroso barrels (for body and dryness).
  • Unadulterated Quality: Bottled at 43%, retaining its natural color and without chill filtration. This way, you enjoy the full, oily texture and authentic character of the spirit, exactly as it came out of the cask.
  • Rich & Creamy: With a deep bronze appearance, it offers a symphony of aromas of autumn fruits, milk chocolate, and vanilla that "embrace" the senses.
  • The Ultimate Balance: Although it is sweet and fruity, notes of oak, ginger, and cinnamon give it a spicy complexity that makes it stand out from any other 12-year-old in its category.

Your Flavorful Journey:

  • Nose: Sweet vanilla with notes of ginger, cereals, and ripe autumn fruits.
  • Palate: Rich, creamy, and velvety. The sweetness of Sherry dominates, accompanied by raisins, chocolate, and warm spices.
  • Finish: Long and full, with a pleasant dryness and hints of hazelnut lingering on the palate.

Disappointing. Coming from Tamdu 12 and Glenmorangie 14 The Quinta Ruban, the difference in taste and aroma is chaotic. I wouldn't recommend it even to a newcomer.

This was the first serious whisky I tried. I didn't know what to expect but it did not disappoint me.

The aroma is very lively and gives you a lot of sweetness on the nose. You also smell a bit of ginger and spicy notes as well as caramel and dark fruits. It is generally very balanced on the nose.

However, the taste is different. No trace of ginger but there is sweetness. Caramel, chocolate, a bit of biscuit and a little bit of heat towards the end. Also quite smooth for its age.

The finish is very good for its ABV and age and gives you a sweet malty sensation and a little bitterness that lasts. Definitely one of the best 12-year-olds I have tried.

I got it as a counterpart to the Macallan 12 double cask. Different profile, one is more acidic with orange, this one is quite earthier with a lot of aftertaste from nuts. It starts sweet and ends stronger. I prefer the more expensive Macallan, but for its price, this one offers a rich flavor that you might need to change categories to get. Personally, it didn't click for me

I bought it because I wanted to use it in a recipe for chocolates, and after doing some research, I found that it is the best Whiskey to pair with dark chocolate 70%. When I tasted it, I was impressed by its flavor, as I am not a big fan of Whiskey. You can taste the flavor and it has a nice aroma, while in others that I have tried, I feel more of the burning sensation from the alcohol. I think it is a very good choice and also a great gift, as it is something special and very nice.

P.S. It really pairs fantastically with dark chocolate and makes a difference!!

    I read very good reviews....
    So maybe I am wrong..
For my taste, I didn't love it.
    Its finish brought me antibiotics.
But as we have said, taste is subjective.
I have had better 12-year-old whiskies...
    It is definitely sweet.

Not much analysis is needed. It flirts with excellence in the 12-year-olds in general and perhaps touches it in the 12-year-old sherry cask. Very affordable if one considers that prices increase exponentially depending on the years! A must-try or purchase!

One of the best Scottish 12-year-olds you will find out there. Along with Balvenie 12 and Dalmore 12, I consider it to be one of the best 12-year-old single malt whiskies you will taste from Speyside and Highlands.
