Numerical Analysis is the branch of Applied Mathematics that deals with the discretization of "continuous" mathematical problems, the solutions of which we ultimately want to approximate with a computer program. It is therefore of particular interest to users of Mathematics in all its applications to the Sciences and Technology.
This book is an evolution of notes that the authors have used in their courses over the last 15 years at the Universities of Athens, Ioannina, Crete, and the National Technical University of Athens. It primarily targets students of Departments of Mathematics, Sciences, and Engineering.
Its chapters address the numerical arithmetic of floating-point representation and rounding errors, the numerical solutions of nonlinear equations and linear systems, the approximation of functions with interpolation polynomials and splines, least squares methods, numerical integration, and an introduction to topics in the numerical solution of ordinary differential equations.
