Descartes literally lived on the borders of two eras, within Europe at the end of the 16th and the beginning of the 17th century. His emergence marks a pivotal moment in the history of philosophical thought: the transition from medieval and Renaissance thinking to modernity.

In an age when everything is dominated by the Church, which defines the path and limits of human thought, the philosopher appears to fundamentally shake the foundations of Scholastic philosophy and to base philosophical thought on new and stable ground, liberating it from the tyranny of the Church and freeing it from medieval prejudices.

Man will find the means to conquer Truth within Nature, not in Religion, but exclusively in his reason. This is the core innovation of Cartesian thought, which in its own way paved the way for the Enlightenment.

The "Discourse on the Method" is the first work published by Descartes in 1637. It is of exceptional interest to anyone wishing to be initiated into Cartesian logic, as it is a brief and concise account of his philosophy.
