The existence of the First man is due to a miracle. A miracle that was born out of a terrible tragedy. On January 4, 1960, after a pleasant meal in the countryside, Albert Camus and his friends set off for Paris. At the wheel of the Facel Vega was his publisher, Michel Gallimard. Near the town of Sens, on National Highway 5, the car crashed into a plane tree. Camus was instantly killed, Michel would die a few days later, his wife Janine and their daughter Anne would survive. Their dog, Flok, would disappear. Almost nothing remained of the car, as its wreckage was scattered for dozens of meters around. Among them, however, an intact leather bag was found. Inside it, a copy of the book "The Gay Science of Nietzsche", two notebooks, and 144 handwritten pages titled: "The First Man". In the last months of his life, Camus never parted with the novel he was writing. He imagined it as the narrative of a great epic of the French in Algeria, something like War and Peace. [...]
