The legendary comic hero Zagor was created in 1961. His real name is Patrick Wilding, but the Indians call him Zagor or Za-Gor-Te-Nay, "The Spirit with the Axe." Zagor's story is set in the Northeastern part of the United States in the first half of the 19th century, in a marshy, rugged area of the fictional Darkwood Forest in Pennsylvania.
Zagor is the legendary hero of the forests, mountains, and lakes who maintains peace between whites and Indians and punishes criminals. His parents were slaughtered by the Abenaki Indians, who were led by a fanatical white renegade. Zagor survived the massacre and was rescued from the river by the wandering hunter, poet, and philosopher "Wandering" Fiji, whose real name is Nathaniel Fitzgeralndson. Fiji raised him as his own son and trained him as a hunter and warrior.
In the comic The Revenge of Gambit (Color Zagor #9, August 2019), written by Jacopo Rauch and illustrated by Massimo Pesce, Gambit, an old acquaintance of Zagor, arrives at Golden Island, a meeting point for foes and adventurers, on the Ohio River. It is a place that hosts countless gambling dens, known as the "City of Sin." A man with a mysterious identity appears, with whom Gambit seems to have old scores to settle...
