Sonny with a Chance for DS is inspired by the show So Random, a popular comedy show for kids. Sonny Munroe, played by Demi Lovato, is the talented 16-year-old who moves from Wisconsin to Los Angeles to join the cast. The game provides players the opportunity to experience random and humorous events with the cast of So Random, including Sonny, Tawni, Nico, Grady, and Zora, as they compete in over 40 mini-games, with two designed exclusively for the Nintendo DSi.

Inspired by well-known episodes of the series Sonny With A Chance, the mini-games include pie throwing, puzzle solving, racing, rhythm games, and other So Random-themed activities. Successfully completing these mini-games gives players an edge to earn more fan letters.

Throughout the game, players interact with the show's producer Marshall and rival Chad. They can also run on a game board inspired by locations from the TV show - the sets of So Random and Mackenzie Falls, the prop room, the cafeteria, and more.

Additionally, players can customize characters with memorable outfits from the show.
