The legendary comic book hero Zagor was created in 1961. His real name is Patrick Wilding, but the Native Americans call him Zagor or Za-Gor-Te-Nay, "The Spirit with the Axe." Zagor's story is set in the Northeastern part of the United States in the first half of the 19th century, in a marshy, inaccessible area of the fictional Darkwood forest in Pennsylvania.

Zagor is the legendary hero of the forests, mountains, and lakes, who maintains peace between whites and Native Americans and punishes criminals. His parents were massacred by the Abenaki Indians, led by a fanatical white renegade. Zagor survived the massacre and was rescued from the river by the nomadic hunter, poet, and philosopher "Wandering" Fitz, whose real name is Nathaniel Fitzgerald. Fitz raised him as his own son and trained him as a hunter and warrior.

In the comic The Kidnapping of Icarus La Plume (Color Zagor #11, August 2020), Eva Dankoff, the daughter of an aeronautical engineer who worked with Icarus La Plume on the construction of the aircraft "Flying Catamaran," kidnapped the Baron. Eva wants to force him to travel with her to the top of the inaccessible rock where the mysterious city Ol Undas is located. La Plume, along with Zagor and Chico, had visited the summit many years ago, discovering a tribe that had been isolated from the rest of the world. After hiring a group of ruthless men, Dankoff plans to expose the residents of Ol Undas to the scientific community in order to uncover their technological secrets.
