Description

The ancient philosophy of wabi-sabi, which in Japanese means "the beauty of imperfection," is an authentic, personal, and nature-harmonized way to take care of ourselves, regain inner harmony, and evolve.

Just as a handcrafted clay cup shows its flaws and is considered more beautiful and valuable in Japan, even when cracked, than a perfect, symmetrical, and uniform one, the philosophy of wabi-sabi focuses on three characteristics of nature:

  • Nothing is perfect (and that’s better).
  • Nothing is complete (we are always evolving).
  • Nothing is everlasting (the ephemeral nature of things and people is what gives them value).

Based on these principles, Nobuo Suzuki's revealing book shows us how the wisdom of wabi-sabi can radically change our lives in all areas, making us more sensitive to beauty and more creative. In other words, more human and happier.

“Wabi-sabi is an invisible web that governs Japanese art, lifestyle, architecture, history, philosophy, religions of the country, society, and mentality. Western thinking, especially nowadays, urges us to seek perfection in everything, hoping that this will lead us to success and happiness. In his book, Nobuo Suzuki helps us deeply reflect on this flawed idea for the art of living. His words helped me discover that, firstly, perfection does not even exist; it is merely an illusion of the human imagination (perhaps even of mathematics).” From the preface by Hector Garcia
