Description

Description

This is the biography of Colonel Spyros Moustaklis, who was a rare example of an unaligned democratic officer, who initially was persecuted with exiles, disciplinary actions, and ultimately was brutally tortured by the subhumans of the Junta to become the symbol of resistance against the dictatorial regime of April 21, 1967.

The book describes all the phases of Spyros Moustaklis's career, presenting the true events, as well as narratives from both his wife and well-known journalists, military personnel, and friends, through which the reader learns details of his short and turbulent life, characterized by devotion to duty, ethics, and integrity.

Hence the spirit of freedom, which justifies the title "A Free Besieged," since Spyros Moustaklis was, among other things, a child of Missolonghi.

Despite its large volume, the book is very easy to read due to the novelist's narrative style and the fluctuations in the exciting life of the hero, except perhaps for the recounting of his martyrdom in the EAT-ESA, where the reader must take deep breaths to endure the anger provoked by the description of the brutal violence of the torturers and the inhumane indifference of the "doctors" towards Spyros Moustaklis's suffering.

The book is one that everyone should read, both those who lived through the shame of the Junta, and the younger generations, so that the former remember and the latter know.

It is a captivating narrative, the product of the entire life of Christina Dimitrakaki-Moustakli. The foreword is signed by the President of the Hellenic Parliament, Mr. Konstantinos An. Tasoulas.
