Unlike other Rotala species, this particular species does not have high demands except for needing good lighting to produce red leaves. It develops side shoots, making it bushy and compact. This means that it is difficult for light to reach the lower leaves, and for this reason, it should be pruned frequently. It is also known by the name Rotala indica.
