Now users will be able to make and receive calls, send messages, listen to music via streaming, use navigation apps, and other functions that require an internet connection, without needing to have their iPhone nearby. This is particularly useful during sports activities, such as running or swimming, where carrying the smartphone can be difficult.
The Apple Watch models that support the Cellular feature include the Apple Watch Series 4 and later, as well as the Apple Watch SE (2nd generation) and Apple Watch Ultra editions. These models have a built-in eSIM that can connect to the cellular network.
There are certain technical requirements for activating the service. Specifically, the user's iPhone must be upgraded to iOS 18.4 or later, and the Apple Watch must be running watchOS 11.4 or a newer version.
