Olive Smith is a PhD candidate in Biology at Stanford University and accepts as reality only what can be supported by data. As a result, she doesn’t believe in love or long-term relationships at all, even though her best friend, Ann, is an incurably romantic soul.
Wanting to convince her that she is doing well and moving on with her life, Olive tells a little white lie… that she is dating someone, and in fact, that she is happier than ever! But Ann is not easily fooled. As a true scientist, Olive panics and to prove it to her, she kisses the first man she sees in front of her!
That man happens to be Adam Carlson, one of the most unattainable and demanding professors at Stanford. Surprisingly, Adam agrees to keep her secret and to be somewhat of her fake boyfriend, leaving Olive speechless.
And when an unforeseen event at a conference puts her career in jeopardy, Adam surprises her again and supports her. Suddenly, their little experiment seems to spiral out of control, and Olive discovers that the only thing more complicated than a theorem about love is putting her own heart under the microscope.
