Description & Specifications

Chrysanthopoulos, Fotios or Fotakos (1798-1878). A fighter of 1821, aide-de-camp to Th. Kolokotronis and memoist. His father was the priest Papa-Yiannakis, which is why his brothers were named Papagiannakopoulos.

He was born in Magouliana, Gortynia. At the time when the Friendly Society was gaining strength, he was in Russia as a merchant employee. He was initiated into the Society and went to Langadia, Gortynia to meet Kanellos Deligiannis.

At the outbreak of the Revolution, he was outside Tripoli with Deligiannis. Kolokotronis appointed him as the first captain of the battalion he originally established in the village of Piana, Tripoli. During the years of Kapodistrias, he was a major and during the era of Otto, he was appointed as a forest director.

His Memoirs are a valuable historical source because, as Kolokotronis' aide-de-camp, he had the opportunity to know people and events. He also wrote the Life of Papaflessas and the Lives of Peloponnesian men.
