Description

Description

This study places the Pontic Question in its real context, that of the broader Asia Minor Issue.

It refers to the Pontic insurgency in northern Asia Minor, which constitutes a shocking page of resistance from a people against a harsh, authoritarian power, reminding us that the transition from the multi-ethnic Ottoman Empire to the era of the national Turkish state was neither bloodless nor straightforward.

The policy of genocide inspired and implemented by the extreme nationalism of the Young Turks is analyzed here, as well as the inter-ethnic relations that developed in the area alongside corresponding movements, such as that of the Armenians.

Finally, the evolution of the concluding phase of the Greco-Turkish confrontation from 1919 to 1922 is presented, which will culminate in the Greek defeat and the definitive exit of the Greek populations from Pontus and the rest of Asia Minor.

    A book with rare objectivity.
With many historical facts unknown to me, and with no trace of localism, bias, or "whitewashing."
