When I started writing an anti-war play for children, I immediately understood the difficulty of it. How do you talk to children about conflicts, weapons, and destruction? Staying silent is one solution. But when war (both realistic and psychological) is the means the powerful use to impose themselves on the weak, when racism and social exclusion are rampant, you cannot remain silent. Especially when all of the above also reflects in a smaller society like that of a school. To address these issues, I wanted to "soften" them without underestimating their significance. I moved into the realm of imagination and created a fun story with plenty of humor. I had the two most well-known enemies of children, cats and mice, confront each other. In this play, unlike reality, it is not the leaders who start the war, but the people, who want to put an end to this eternal conflict. They equip themselves with weapons that may not seem dangerous but are. Cans of fish and various flavored cheeses, dipped in paint so that they cannot be eaten, become the munitions, which when they begin to run out, hunger and decline set in. Things will change when our heroes realize that no one ever wins from a war. And then finally, they will reconcile and understand that "no matter how different others may seem to you, sometimes they are exactly like you."
