The Gold3 utilizes a four-piece OTL cantilever with an elliptical diamond stylus, specifically designed for Grado, which is mounted in a brass housing. With the Gold3, a refined generator is used to achieve lower distortion and greater clarity. The Gold3s are hand-selected from production runs that meet higher testing specifications.
Grado's OTL technology provides an ideal signal transfer from the LP surface to the system's generator. This technology rejects unwanted oscillations and reduces distortion while preserving the fundamental and harmonic frequencies of the music. It also helps keep noise generated by the drive system at the turntable head at low levels.
The design of Grado's OTL stylus/cantilever makes the records sound quieter, improves the height, width, and depth of the soundstage, and reveals more details than before.
The Gold3 is hand-assembled by our team in Brooklyn, with some manufacturers having over 25 years of experience. With the recent development of the Lineage cartridge series, it was possible to transform the technology and introduce a new technique into the Gold3. This refreshed cartridge series offers excellent tonal balance, dynamics, and realism, for a very satisfying reproduction of vocals and instruments.
Our coil winding techniques, using ultra-pure copper wire, were perfected during the development of the Lineage series, allowing the electrical circuits to achieve uniformity among the four coils in each turntable head. This enables precise balance between the channels and accurate stereo imaging.
Like all Grado turntable heads, the Gold3 is powered by a dual magnet system that optimizes the balance between the stereo channels. All internal magnetic circuit parts are maintained to extremely high tolerances, creating the desired stereo image.
Grado's patented Flux-Bridger design allows the Gold3 to have one of the lowest effective moving mass systems while creating excellent balance across the entire frequency range. The development of the Epoch in the Lineage series provided us with an in-depth experience in using an external housing as a damping device. This led to the creation of a process that decompresses the frame and dissipates unwanted energy & vibrations, allowing the desired signal to travel freely.
