Group B streptococci are particularly widespread bacteria that can cause various problems during pregnancy, such as urinary tract inflammation and premature birth.
The main factor for streptococcal neonatal infection is considered to be the transmission of group B streptococcus from the mother to the child. Therefore, prenatal screening for group B streptococcus is recommended.
