This volume contains the free arrangements and fantasies composed by Liszt in the second half of the 1830s, which demonstrate not only the breadth of his piano repertoire but also his skills as a composer.
In the Trois morceaux de salon, which begin the volume, the themes of the first two pieces are derived from Swiss and Spanish melodies, while the third piece is inspired by Giovanni Pacini's opera Niobe. This "trilogy" is followed by melodies from the final and most successful major operas of Bellini, Donizetti, Meyerbeer, and Mercadante presented in Milan and Paris, in fantasies based on I puritani, Lucia di Lammermoor, Les Huguenots, and Il giuramento ('The Oath'). The latter is a particularly interesting feature of the volume, as, to the best of our knowledge, this piece has not been published until now.
The volume is available in two editions: in blue linen (A 8767) or in hardcover (B 8767).
