This is a very viral book that has stolen hearts, both literally and metaphorically. So, welcome to the centenary and to the magical island of Lightlark, which appears every 100 years. 6 deadly and secretive leaders, 6 kingdoms, each plagued by a heavy curse. 1 chance to break the curses every 100 years on the island of Lightlark, at the cost of one leader and one kingdom having to die. To start, I will say that I found the writing effort very honest and the concept nice and, for me, original. The first part of the book started explosively and I couldn't put it down as the world and the characters absorbed me. However, I must admit that in the middle of the book, as the search for an element was taking place, I felt like I was losing it as I noticed some writing gaps that the author tried to fill but didn't convince me. But then again, I couldn't put it down! Especially the plot twists were riveting! So, I want to conclude with this: it is a wonderful fantasy book for ages 14-18 and I definitely liked and enjoyed it! I can't wait for the second one because it left us at a point...! Now, as for the hype, I don't know if it should be THAT much of a bestseller, but I recommend it to you!

WELCOME TO THE CENTENNIAL

Every hundred years, the island of Lightlark appears for only a hundred days to host a deadly game, in which the leaders of six kingdoms try to break their curses and gain unmatched power. Each leader has something to hide. And each curse threatens to destroy an entire people. To break them – and save themselves and their kingdoms – one leader must die.

To survive, Aila Crown must lie, deceive, betray.

At the same time that love complicates everything...

Ayla Crown often fell through little star pools and ended up in faraway places. Always without permission—and, it seemed, at the worst possible moments. Even after five years, these instantaneous journeys still made her bones ache. She gripped her starwand tightly, holding her breath deep in her chest, like the rare perfumes sealed in their bottles on her vanity, as the glass room spun and the distinct colors blended into one, until gravity finally pinned her down like a loose thread in the universe. By the time the door opened, she had already hidden the wand down the back of her dress, along her spine. “What happened to your hair?” Poppy shrieked so loudly that Terra quickly came up behind her, the many knives and swords at her waist clattering together noisily.

Her hair was the least of her worries, though she had no doubt it looked like moss. Traveling between the new lands of the kingdoms with her starwand usually ruined even the tightest buns and the most carefully crafted braids Poppy made for her—an unexpected upside, if she was honest. Ayla never pretended to be an expert at using the device. At first, the star pool took her to unexpected places: to the snowy villages of Moonling’s new land; to the floating mountains of Skyling’s new land; to some areas that hadn’t been settled by any of the six kingdoms. Gradually, she learned how to return to places she had already visited. That was the extent of her ability to handle the starwand.

The only thing she knew for sure was that the mysterious device somehow allowed her to travel hundreds of kilometers in seconds. Terra sighed, her hand dropping from the hilt of her blade. “She just lost a few strands, Poppy.” Poppy ignored her. She ran over to Ayla, holding a bru
