Titles of Works: J.S. Bach Preludio E-dur BWV 1006/1, Chaconne d-moll BWV 1004/5 for Violin and Piano (Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy).
In 1853, Robert Schumann added piano accompaniment to Bach's cello suites, however, only the music of the Third Suite BWV 1009 has been preserved (EB 8431). However, already on February 8, 1840, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy accompanied the concertmaster of the Gewandhaus, Ferdinand David, on piano during the performance of Bach's two solo violin works, where the "Preludio" was played as an encore. The famous "Chaconne for violin and piano" was published a few years later by two publishers. It is surprising that the former encore piece remains unpublished to this day.
